President Trump announced today (June 7th) through his Twitter account that tariffs on Mexico are ‘indefinitely suspended’ after the Mexican government agreed to take more stringent steps to curb illegal border crossings:
“Mexico, in turn, has agreed to take strong measures to…stem the tide of Migration through Mexico, and to our Southern Border. This is being done to greatly reduce, or eliminate, Illegal Immigration coming from Mexico and into the United States.”
Mexican government officials have been in Washington this week to persuade the Trump administration from imposing 5% tariffs on all goods imported from Mexico. This deal comes just 3 days short of the June 10th deadline.
